New Trust Wizard Help

Welcome. Using this wizard, you can configure the appropriate trust type between this domain and any one of the following:

The following table defines the trust options available in the New Trust Wizard and provides links to more information about each trust type. For more information about trust types, see Trust types.

Trust type Transitivity Direction Description
External Nontransitive One-way or two-way Use external trusts when users need access to resources located on a Windows NT 4.0 domain or on a domain located within a separate forest. This mechanism helps to provide backward compatibility with Windows NT environments and communications with domains located in other forests that are not joined by forest trusts. For more information, see To create an external trust and When to create an external trust.
Shortcut Transitive One-way or two-way Use shortcut trusts to improve user logon times when made between two domains within a Windows Server 2003 forest. This is useful when two domains are separated by two domain trees. For more information, see To create a shortcut trust and When to create a shortcut trust.
Realm Transitive or nontransitive One-way or two-way Use realm trusts to form a trust relationship between a non-Windows Kerberos realm and a Windows Server 2003 domain. This provides interoperability between Windows Server 2003 domains and any realm used in Kerberos V5 implementations. For more information, see To create a realm trust and When to create a realm trust.
Forest Transitive One-way or two-way Use forest trusts to share resources from one forest to another. If a forest trust is two-way, it will effectively allow all authentication requests made in either forest to reach the other. For more information, see To create a forest trust and When to create a forest trust.
